Cheapass Games didn’t release a lot of pure abstract games, aside from freebies. But this card game about pipes and fields really does earn its “very clever” name.
Each card shows black and white pipe sections floating over light and dark fields. The game can support up to four competitors, each taking a different color of pipes or fields. Everyone’s goal is to create enclosed sets of their color, and when you do this, you take those cards off the board and into a score pile.
The Very Clever Pipe Game was originally sold as CAG #009, but was eventually redesigned and moved into the Hip Pocket Games line. The smaller 48-card version is the one we present here.
